Key Identification Features
- Brown fan-shaped cap (5–20 cm) with inrolled margin, crowded yellow to brown gills that run down stem, distinctive thick dark velvety brown stem. Grows on conifer stumps and roots. Not gilled in the conventional sense — stem is off-center and dark-velvety.
⚠ Inedible: This species is not considered edible. It may be unpalatable, too tough, or otherwise unsuitable for consumption — but it is not known to be dangerously toxic. Do not eat it.
