Key Identification Features
- Brown slimy cap (4–12 cm), yellow pores, short white stem without a ring, yellow flesh that does not blue, strictly associated with 2-needle pines. The absence of a ring distinguishes it from S. luteus. Slimy cap texture is characteristic of Suillus genus.
Preparation Notes
Peel the slimy cap skin before cooking — causes GI upset in some people. Good flavor; sauté, dry, or add to stews.
