Key Identification Features
- Small fragile mushroom (1-4 cm cap) with fine olive-yellow scales
- distinctly olive-yellow tinted gills. Lowland tropical organic mulch and Ironwood trees. Islands: Hawaii Island (Puna/Hilo districts), Oahu. Wet winter seasons (November-March). Local name: Olive Dapperling. Lookalikes: Small edible parasol variations — olive-yellow gills and small size are critical warning flags. CONTAINS LETHAL AMATOXINS.
Symptoms & Toxicity
BIPHASIC AMATOXIN SYNDROME: Phase 1 — Delayed vomiting/cholera-like diarrhea (onset 6-24 hours). Phase 2 — Apparent recovery. Phase 3 — Fulminant hepatic failure, jaundice, multi-organ collapse. DELAYED ONSET >6 HOURS IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY.
