- Gray to grayish-brown convex cap (3–8 cm), white waxy gills (widely spaced and waxy texture), white to pale stem, strong anise/almond/apricot aroma (distinctive), grows under conifers especially spruce and fir at elevation. The waxy gills and anise aroma are key.
