Key Identification Features
- Small tan to buff cap (2-5 cm) with broad distinct central umbo
- widely spaced pale cream gills (key feature - most ring-forming mushrooms have crowded gills)
- pale tough fibrous stem
- grows in rings or arcs on lawns and meadows
- sweet honey-like odor
- revives when rehydrated
Preparation Notes
Excellent dried mushroom; the tough stem should be discarded. Revives in water after drying. Widely used in soups and sauces. CAUTION: Grow in similar habitats to toxic Clitocybe dealbata (Ivory Funnel) - note the widely spaced gills.
